Visual Design Process

A design is a sketch or blueprint for the production of an entire system or object, or even for the implementation of a particular process or activity, or the manifestation of this blueprint or plan in the form of some physical product or implement. In engineering, the term design is used to refer to the process by which the results of a design are achieved. Designing is usually a very involved process involving numerous steps, and it involves a great deal of communication between the designer and the client. The designers create a detailed plan or blueprint of every aspect of the product to be produced, such as its manufacturing process, output, size, shape, etc., and they make these plans under various assumptions such as economic, social, and technological variables. Once these plans are ready, they are implemented by the production staff in a supervised process within a production unit.

In order to be able to undertake and complete the design process effectively, designers must have a background in mathematics and science, including graphic design and computer software. The major use of computers in the design process is to control the creation of various patterns, including graphs, in order to produce a more realistic model of how something will look like, as opposed to the traditional representational (classical) drawing process. Other computer-aided design processes include 3D modeling techniques and the drafting process. The graphic design activity comprises a wide variety of aspects of visual art, including painting, sculpture, film and television, computer graphics, and architecture.

Although the modern society has seen a decline in the popularity of architectural detailing, architects and designers still possess very strong skills in visual design and visual art. This is because the visual design systems they work on are often used in conjunction with other disciplines, such as engineering, computer science, and the arts, thus complementing each other. Architectural detailing is not only used to create buildings, but also to create the architecture for cities, parks, residential neighborhoods, and offices buildings. In this case, the architect works on specific problem, such as the drainage system in a park, while the designers work on the aesthetic aspects of the design, such as the lighting fixtures in a building. The design systems may also incorporate a wide variety of media, such as photography, film, and sculpture.
